I have been making “one-of-a-kind” artistic and functional items on a wood lathe since 1983. I am a retired Asst Fire Chief so I can now focus full time on my woodworking art. I use reclaimed Missouri hardwoods, keeping it out of the landfill and putting it to a better use. The bowls are food safe as they are treated with linseed and orange oil. Pyrography (wood burning) and carving is done by hand.
I have been a member of American Association of Woodturners (AAW www.woodturner.org)since 1992 and two time President of Olympic Peninsula Woodturners chapter of AAW. Current member Woodturners of St Louis chapter of AAW www.stlturners.org.
I currently have pieces in the Bluestem Gallery, Columbia, MO http://www.bluestemmissouricrafts.com/ and The Plank Road, St Charles MO. http://www.plankroadgifts.com/
Please feel free to email at email@example.com if you have any questions or would like to talk about a unique commissioned piece.
Mounted on lathe between centers.
Shavings flying, shaping the outside.
Putting the linseed oil finish on the outside.
Cutting out the center.
Cutting the tenon off that I used to hold it in the chuck while I did the inside.
Final little bit of the tenon. Bowl is held on with a vacuum chuck.
Sanding the bottom
And 3 hours later a bowl.
